In a stinging remark against former colleague and Nationalist Congress Party Leader Dhananjay Munde, Supriya Sule said that she felt that it was better that the party had split as she could not bear to work with Munde.

“Sometimes I feel it was better that the party got split. Because if I had remained in the party then I could not have remained (in the party)… The world knows about my stand. The man who can plant a gun in his wife’s car, who is the mother of his children, I can’t work with such a man,” said Sule while addressing party workers in Pune on Sunday.

Sule, the National Working President of the Sharad Pawar faction of the Nationalist Congress Party claimed that the fight in the NCP leadership began over expelling people like Munde.

She further added, “The fight (in the party) began since then, I am revealing all this now. I am not afraid of anyone.”said Sule.

While Sule did not name Munde, it is no secret as to who she was referring to as Munde’s estranged second wife Karuna Munde was arrested in September 2021 in Beed by the police who claimed that they had recovered a gun from the car. Sule’s remarks against Munde are significant as in social media there have been images circulating of an unidentified man placing an object in Karuna Munde’s car when she was in Beed to campaign against Munde.

Dhananjay Munde a NCP Minister and considered close to Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has sided with the latter after the NCP split. Munde’s tenure as a cabinet Minister was short lived after his close aide Walmik Karad was arrested and chargesheeted in the extortion cum brutal murder of a sarpanch from Beed. While the NCPSP leader has claimed that she was keen to ensure that Munde was booted out of the party, the incident of Karuna Munde being arrested took place in September 2021 while the NCP split took place in July 2023.Sule in her speech also referred to Munde’s resignation claiming that ‘another wicket’ would soon fall. “ In 100 days one Minister has fallen, wait for six months another wicket will fall.”said Sule.

Besides Munde, another NCP Minister Manikrao Kokate is in trouble after he was convicted by a court and sentenced to two years imprisonment for fabricating documents to get benefit of a housing scheme meant for poor people. A Nashik Sessions court has issued a stay on the decision.
