Windsor police are looking for witnesses to a fatal collision Tuesday night that claimed the life of a 25-year-old woman.

Officers responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Lauzon Parkway and Hawthorne Drive just before 10 p.m., where they found a white sedan with extensive front-end damage and a white pickup truck overturned on its side.

The female driver of the car was rushed to hospital but succumbed to her injuries. A 38-year-old man driving the pickup truck sustained non-life threatening injuries.

The area was closed for several hours while members of the Windsor Police Service’s traffic reconstruction unit investigated.

Police urge anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or who has video footage of it, to contact the traffic enforcement unit at 519-945-9645, ext. 223, or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 519-258-8477 (TIPS), or online at catchcrooms.com.

A 43-year-old female pedestrian was killed while attempting to cross the street at the nearby intersection of Lauzon Parkway and Forest Glade Drive. Police said the woman was struck by a vehicle travelling eastbound on Forest Glade Drive.

Earlier this month, a new report from Windsor police identified the intersection of Lauzon Parkway and Tecumseh Road East as the city’s eighth most dangerous intersection, with a total of 45 collisions reported in 2024.

Lauzon Parkway — which sees about 30,000 vehicles daily — has also been recognized by the Canadian Automobile Association in its Worst Roads campaigns.

The busy stretch of road was named one of the CAA’s Top 5 worst roads in Southwestern Ontario for 2024, alongside Tecumseh Road East and University Avenue West.

Extensive upgrades to the parkway were completed last summer and fall, including the installation of new storm and sanitary sewers, watermain improvements, and the addition of new pavement and sidewalks.

Additional construction on the northbound lanes and the multi-use trail and boulevard restoration is expected to be completed by July.

The work is part of a planned three-phase reconstruction and rehabilitation of Lauzon Parkway between Tecumseh Road East and the E.C. Row Expressway.

Phase 1 saw the complete rebuild of north and southbound lanes from Tecumseh Road East to Hawthorne Drive at a cost of $2.6 million, with Phase 2 work, from E.C. Row Expressway to Cantelon Drive, costing $5.5 million.
